Background

Traditional methods of analyzing this data are too complex and time-consuming, making it nearly impossible to identify patterns that lead to defects. Noodle recognized this gap and took on the challenge of building a solution that would simplify the analysis of manufacturing data and provide actionable insights. We partnered with a Steel Mill to come p with a solution.

What I did

I was involved from the beginning of this zero-to-one project. When I started, it was just a series of equations in Jupyter Notebooks. I led the design process from mapping out workflows and conducting user research to creating final designs, and guiding front-end development — ultimately shaping this into an extensible, reproducible self-service application.

Factories capture loads of data, but pinpointing the cause of defective products in the data is like finding a needle in a haystack.

Key Requirements

1.

1.

User inputs — logical process to input request

2.

2.

Understand multi-variate thresholds

3.

3.

Create and monitor defect drivers

Final Design

Switch between different “Distribution Plans”, or compare plans side by side

Make data-driven informed decisions in model configuration

Date range selection in model configuration

Understand how multiple factors have a multiplying effect on defect probability

Create watchlists of defect drivers

Monitor watchlists for accuracy

Results

Quality Flow has made a big impact across industries as varied as candy and steel, significantly lowering the Total Cost of Quality. Customers see a 25-35% drop in quality costs, 15-35% less variability, and over 25% fewer defects. It’s also boosted (First Pass) Yield by 15-20% and cut inspection and RCA time by more than 40%. Plus, with major reductions in scrap and rework, the application is now driving $5M ARR and gaining momentum.

Inter is a versatile sans-serif typeface designed by Rasmus Andersson in 2016. Created for screen readability, it features clean lines, excellent kerning, and optimized legibility at small sizes. Widely used in digital interfaces, Inter has become a favorite for its modern, approachable design and extensive language support. You can contribute to it at github.com/rsms/inter.

Space Grotesk is a proportional sans-serif typeface variant based on Colophon Foundry's fixed-width Space Mono family (2016). Originally designed by Florian Karsten in 2018, Space Grotesk retains the monospace's idiosyncratic details while optimizing for improved readability at non-display sizes. You can contribute to it at github.com/floriankarsten/space-grotesk
